Media Center
Our media center is a hub for creative learning and exploration. We offer more than 12,000 books, magazines, and audio-visual materials for our students and teachers to use and enjoy with the assistance of a full-time certified media specialist. All students benefit from weekly library classes and open library hours before and after school. We have access to all Accelerated Reader quizzes and support our students’ participation in AR reading and quizzing. The TEAL (technology enabled active learning) Center is a space outfitted with laptop computers, a smart screen, and printers where students can work individually or collaborate in groups with their instructor. The Media Center also has a dedicated set of 30 iPads for student use. Also in the media center, teams of eighth graders produce WSMM Channel 72 News; they broadcast their show daily to all classrooms from the WSMM Broadcasting studio. And our newest creative space is the SMM Mac Lab: a suite of iMacs and a MacBook Pro for small groups to use to explore their interests, showcase their discoveries, and create amazing project work.
